Like a lot of people, I’ve been furious about what has been happening (and not happening) in federal government. Not as all-consuming as they were in 2012, the anger, frustration and just a maddening sense of helplessness still sometime overtake me whenever I hear or think about some of the buffoonery going on in D.C. right now. Yesterday I stopped feeling so helpless when I sat down with a bunch of other folks and made calls to encourage people to get out and vote in the upcoming midterm elections. I simply signed up (I did it with moveon.org, but there must be other organizations doing the same thing), went in for a couple of hours and met some very nice South Dakotans via telephone. I didn’t try to convince them to vote for any particular candidate; just encouraged them to get out and vote. It wasn’t anything monumental, but it felt good.It felt like I was doing something besides gnashing my teeth, throwing money at the problem and hoping things will improve.
Happy Sunday!
